Technical Support :: Password Tips

The most basic step you can take to protecting your web site is to use a strong password - one that is difficult to guess. The difference between a four letter, lower case alphabetic password and an 8 character alpha-numeric password with caps and lowers is one that may be cracked in a few minutes while the other would likely take months. Here are a few guidelines to use for managing your passwords:

  1. Change your password the first time you log into your control panel.
  2. Do not use words that are found in the dictionary or in obvious places on your web site as a password.
  3. Use a combination of upper and lower case letters as well as numbers.
  4. Make your password at least 8 characters in length.
  5. If you write your passwords down, store them offline (not on your computer) in a secure location (not under your keyboard).
  6. Change your passwords frequently.

Following these simple steps will help keep your web site safe.
